Reiki Massage - A Female's Perspective

Reiki massage was probably the last modality that interested me when I searched for bodywork. Being brought up the oldest and always playing outside with the boys, I didn't really like too much of my feminine side. So accepting Reiki massage was a challenge for me because I would have to let go of my perception of what a massage really is suppose to feel like. Reiki unlike deep tissue where I feel discomfort majority of the time (even though it's good for me), is an energy healing. The therapist who applied Reiki on me actually did touch my body so I didn't feel too disconnected from the session.

She applied long soothing strokes to calm me down and then applied Reiki to the session. Now don't ask me what she did because I would do it injustice. What I can tell you is that I felt an enormous amount of heat flowing from her hands onto my body. It felt as if someone had place a heat pad on me and then started to crank up the temperature. Basically, my "Chi" or energy which was trapped was cleared and after it cleared, I started feeling chilly. She stated to me that it's natural to feel a little cold since the energy is now flowing better. All I know is that I felt relief from my back pain and my menstrual pain which I was experiencing for a week.

I also believe it's important that you choose a therapist is very advanced in not Reiki but other modalities like Swedish and Deep Tissue. This way, if you do not like the Reiki, you can always ask them to change the modality. In my case, I asked her to combine them and it felt amazing. I must say that I did not detoxify like I normally do but it still felt great afterwards.

What is Reiki Massage

Reiki (pronounced Ray-key) is a Japanese name consisting of 2 words Rei and Ki meaning spiritually guided life energy (commonly known as Universal Life Energy), an energy which animates us all and is found all around us. Reiki is a form of spiritual healing using "universal life energy" channeled through the practitioner to the recipient.

Reiki helps to harmonize body, mind and spirit

A treatment feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing. Many have reported miraculous results.

Reiki in conjunction with therapeutic massage, hot rocks and other medical techniques can balance not only your physical and emotional well-being, but your spiritual as well.

How Reiki Massage Helps

Reiki is believed to relieve pain, boosts the immune system and relieve acute and chronic problems. This is believed because physical manifestations of pain are often linked to emotional, mental and spiritual states. Chronic illnesses may take a series of treatments, depending on the specific nature of the disease. Reiki goes beyond the symptoms to treat the root cause of the disease. When we treat only the symptoms, we do not always get to the true basis of the illness.

Reiki practitioners channel energy in a particular pattern to heal and harmonize. Unlike other healing therapies based on the premise of a human energy field, Reiki seeks to restore order to the body whose vital energy has become unbalanced.

What are the Benefits?

Reiki can be used in many ways and combined with essential oils and massage is a powerful tool. Reiki massage is great if you are suffering from stress or tension, and the many symptoms associated with stress and tension. It can also improve the quality of difficult relationships at home or work. the beneficial effects of Reiki and massage occur on many different levels. Reiki can accelerate the healing of physical problems, balance the emotions, and free us from restrictive mental attitudes. It may also provide a closer connection with our own inner wisdom.

Reiki encourages and supports positive personal change such as improving the diet, having more rest, exercise or leisure time, and may reduce the need for alcohol and tobacco. Reiki can allow us to respond more calmly to all events, and build on a more resourceful state of being. Reiki is a gentle energy and may be used safely by all ages, including the newborn, pregnant mothers, surgical patients, the frail and the elderly, regardless of their state of health. Reiki can enhance everyday life, and regular sessions help to ward-off illness and fatigue.

Reiki Symbol

Reiki symbols are sacred healing symbols that open the doors of healing for its practitioners. These symbols provide a path for the flow of energy and lead one to higher levels of awareness and manifestations. Each symbol holds some form of meta-physical energy. In written scriptures, these symbols are considered to be Sanskrit derived Japanese forms.

Reiki has four symbols, which are: Cho ku Rei, Sei He Ki,Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen and Dai ko Myo. Cho ku Rei is the symbol of power. Though Reiki energy can flow without it, the symbol provides a source of energy. It is usually used in the beginning of the healing process. It can also be used in the middle or the concluding phase; in fact, whenever energy is required for accentuating the healing process. It is used specifically for healing within the physical body.

Sei He Ki is the symbol of healing relationship problems. It represents mental and emotional healing. It is also used for protection, purification, clearing and balancing of energies. Reiki believes that, when one catches a disease, it is a representation of energy imbalances that has taken place in the emotional body (subconscious mind) and the mental body (unconscious mind). This symbol can be used for healing emotional or mental distress such as nervousness, fear, depression, anger, and sadness. It can be also used to enhance memory, as it connects with the subconscious mind, where memory is stored.

Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen is the symbol used for transmitting energy across time and space. This can be used for transmitting energy into the past as well the future. Dai Ko Myo is the Matter Symbol. It is considered to be the Light of the Buddha or the Light of the Awakened Heart. It signifies expanded wisdom and an ability to see the future. It is used to heal the soul.

Studying these symbols can open the doors of spiritual power and awakening. This is why Reiki and its symbols are growing in popularity, even today.

Breast Cancer and Reiki

The American Cancer Society estimates that in 2006, about 212,900 women in the U.S. will learn they have invasive breast cancer. American women have a 1 in 8 chance of developing this type of cancer at some point in their lives, and roughly 2 million have already been treated for the disease. Thankfully, death rates from breast cancer have dropped dramatically. Early detection as well as advances in chemotherapy and other treatments mean that each year yields more and more breast cancer survivors.[i]

As with any cancer, traditional treatments for breast cancer can cause their own array of health challenges. Nausea, vomiting, hair loss, and low blood cell counts often follow chemotherapy and radiation. In a recent study published in The Journal of the National Cancer Institute, Dr. Michael Hassett of Boston's Dana-Farber Cancer Institute found that 16 % of breast cancer patients under age 64 required a hospital visit to manage chemotherapy side effects.[ii] Chemotherapy targets all rapidly growing cells, including white blood cells (known as neutrophils), which support the immune system. Neutropenia, meaning white blood cell counts have dropped below normal levels, lowers immune response to invaders like bacteria, viruses and fungi.[iii] Consequently, the most common and serious reason for the post-chemo hospital visits was high fever from infections. Anemia-resulting from low red blood cell count-poses additional struggles in the form of extreme fatigue.

Anti-nausea drugs, blood transfusions and lab-made white blood cell "boosters" now form part of a growing arsenal of coping strategies.[iv] But for women who feel conflicted about taking drugs in the first place, these solutions can seem too toxic or even add additional complaints. The neurtophil enhancers, for example, cause temporary bone pain as the marrow rapidly produces more cells. Leigh Leming, 54, a breast cancer survivor whose cancer later returned and metasticized, decided that this time she wanted to try something different. Unable to eat due to nausea, she now follows the advice of an Ayurvedic chef. She drinks a shot of ginger, lemon juice, and honey before each meal. "It's the only thing that keeps my food down," Leming explains. She also takes wheat grass juice to build up her blood counts, because 2 ounces of wheat grass juice contain nutrients equivalent to 4 pounds of organic produce: "The difference in my energy levels is amazing!"

A patient at St. Luke's Hospital in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, Leming noticed fliers offering Reiki sessions there. Reiki (pronounced "RAY-key") is an ancient healing energy system rediscovered in the late nineteenth century by a Japanese monk named Dr. Mikao Usui. The "Rei" stands for "universal," and the "ki" refers to "life force energy" similar to "Chi" in Chinese healing or "prana" in yoga. Thus, Reiki means "universal life force energy," which works on all levels-physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual. By influencing all these levels, Reiki is believed gently but dramatically to amplify people's innate abilities to heal themselves. One can perform Reiki with hands on or above the body, and even across great distances. Most people notice it as heat, tingling or a feeling of deep love and support.

Leming's friends at St. Luke's Wellness Center explained that they receive Reiki sessions prior to chemotherapy in order to offset some of their post-chemo reactions. Other patients noticed dramatic improvement in pain levels following Reiki treatments. After experiencing some of this pain relief herself-"I actually forget to take my pain pills after a Reiki session"-Leming gathered a group of patients and survivors to learn how to treat themselves with Reiki. Having received an attunement (opening of the body's natural energy paths) from a Reiki Master Teacher, they can now feel Reiki flowing through their own hands. Although her pain returns, Leming reports a greater sense of calmness and peace when dealing with pain, as well as other cancer stressors like finances and family relationships.

No formal U.S. studies have proven Reiki's effectiveness in treating cancer; however, The Canadian Breast Cancer Research Initiative recently awarded a $20,000 grant to Dr. Ahlam Mansour of the College of Nursing, University of Saskatchewan. Dr. Mansour will study "the effects of Reiki on the level of anxiety, physical problems, spiritual well-being, and complete blood counts in patients undergoing their initial AC (chemotherapy)."[v] The June 1997 issue of Cancer Prevention Control shared preliminary results from a controlled study at the Cross Cancer Institute in Edmonton, Canada. Twenty volunteers with chronic pain, including pain from cancer, received Reiki treatments from a certified Reiki Level 2 practitioner. Study supervisors used both a visual analog scale (VAS) and a Likert scale to measure pain before and after Reiki. The study found that receiving Reiki greatly improved pain levels.[vi]

Across the United States, hospitals and hospices have begun to value Reiki. In 1997, Nancy Samson, RN, BS, began coordinating a volunteer Reiki program in the radiation oncology ward at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire. Today, the center hosts Reiki Certification Classes and advertises 50% reimbursement of class cost for DHMC employees. [vii] The esteemed California Pacific Medical Center's Health and Healing Clinic offers Reiki, along with acupressure, nutritional therapy and yoga. [viii] Hospices increasingly offer Reiki to patients as a means of easing pain and reducing anxiety about the unknown.

Arizona hosts one of the longest relationships between Reiki and traditional cancer treatment. Sally Soderlund, RN (Support Services Coordinator for Oncology) directs the Tucson Medical Center (TMC) Reiki Clinic. The Reiki program at TMC began over 11 years ago in the Cancer Care Unit. It has since branched out to other areas of the hospital as well. Reiki practitioners at TMC usually describe Reiki as "healing energy" and work together in two person teams. They emphasize the relaxing and healing qualities of Reiki, rather than delving into metaphysics. Although some patients report spiritual experiences during Reiki sessions, volunteers explain that Reiki is a healing system, not a religion. The TMC clinic's success continues due to patient requests for repeat sessions as well as nurse reports of improved patient mood and healing rate.[ix]

The American Cancer Society regards Reiki as a "safe" complementary cancer therapy. Their website acknowledges patients' subjective reports of Reiki's ability to speed healing and increase their sense of well-being. Like massage, Reiki induces relaxation, lowers heart rate and reduces stress levels. Studies indicate that people heal better if they can remain in a low stress state. Because massage actually manipulates tissue, though, the American Cancer Society recommends avoiding areas near tumors until research shows if tissue manipulation can spread cancer cells to other parts of the body.[x] Unlike massage, Reiki involves a light touch or no touch at all: there is no tissue manipulation. Recipients remain clothed while energy flows above and into their body. For people with multiple tumor sites, Reiki offers a chance to tap into the healing power of relaxation without any contraindications.

How Reiki Can Improve Your Chi

Reiki is a Japanese practice that focuses on channeling your Chi energy throughout your body and by doing so your body will begin a self-healing process. A good reiki practitioner can help you feel relaxed and reduce the stress you are under. Sometimes stress is caused by a low energy flow, and this low energy flow not only causes stress but it disables your body's defense mechanism, making it unable to heal itself or slowing down the healing process. And this is exactly what reiki does - it frees your body from energy clogs and helps it to start functioning normally again.

What should you expect during a reiki treatment? You will be placed on a massage table where you can relax. It is important to wear comfortable clothing that is not tight. Depending on your need, the practitioner will treat specific areas for longer periods of time. He or she will meditate in order to begin the energy flow. This is not your regular visit to a masseuse so instead of talking you should allow your body to relax and meditate. The usual treatment lasts around 20 minutes, although it may be longer or shorter depending on your specific needs.

Who is reiki for? If you have serious health problems you should stick with conventional medicine. Although combining reiki with the conventional approach can be beneficial. Stimulating your body with reiki to begin a self healing process can have a positive effect on you and it can be combined with the medicine prescribed by your regular doctor.

If you are interested in reiki, you can learn a lot about the practice from the Alternative Medicines website. You can also go there for any additional information on art therapy, herbal medicine, rolfing, yoga, and you can also check out their alternative medicine blog for the newest information and research.

Understanding the History of Reiki and Its Many Benefits

Reiki healing is growing in popularity around the Western world. The word "Reiki" is Japanese and means "Universal Life Energy." A Japanese theologian named Dr. Mikao Usui founded the Reiki healing system at the end of the last century. He discovered the ancient healing system after studying Sanskrit texts in a Buddhist monastery. Though the texts revealed the knowledge needed, Dr. Usui still had to undergo three weeks of fasting and meditation before receiving the healing empowerment of the Reiki system. An American woman named Hawayo Takata brought the Reiki system to the Western world. Takata was cured of a tumor at a Reiki clinic in Japan, and then totally dedicated her life to Reiki. She was trained by a Japanese master named Dr. Chujiro Hayashi. During her life, Takata created 22 Reiki Masters to carry on the methods. Channeling Healing Energy Reiki is best known for being used as a channel for energy to provide a safe healing method. It promotes good health and well being and can be experienced by people of all ages, whether in good health or stricken by illness. By replenishing a person's life force energy, their body's immune system can be strengthened. This helps the body in its fight against disease. A Reiki healer channels energy to a welcoming receiver. The person receiving Reiki experiences a warm, relaxing feeling in their soul, mind and body. The experience is just as much spiritual as it is physical. Benefits of Reiki Reiki healing offers many benefits. It is often used for stress management and to help the body fight and prevent sickness. As Reiki energy is channeled to an individual, they can relax and relieve their stress. This helps the person feel better and think more clearly. The more Reiki energy they can receive, the better they will feel. When a sick or stress-prone person receives Reiki, their body becomes free to help itself become healthier than ever. Other benefits of Reiki include healed relationships, finding one's Divine Purpose, manifesting life goals, awakening the healer within, cleansing the body from toxins, enhancing creativity, and many others. To offer so many benefits, Reiki is surprisingly gentle and nurturing. It is not a harsh medical treatment, but can be far more powerful for the individual who opens their mind, heart and soul to the process wholly and freely. How it Works After an initiation to Reiki, called Reiki Attunement, and learning about Reiki symbols, the individual is introduced to Reiki energy through several methods, including crystals and crystal healing, drumming healing, meditations, and other stress management techniques. Even many modern chiropractors, psychotherapists, medical doctors, psychologists and other medical professionals are beginning to realize the benefits of Reiki. More and more people are tapping into Reiki energy to experience a fuller, healthier life.

Reiki Hands - The Magic of Healing, Health and Vitality

The art of healing (through Reiki or any other form) is nothing new. Every mother has the instinct to reach out to her crying child and soothe it with her hands, seeking out the discomfort with stroking, holding, touching, loving and closeness.

Many forms of healing have evolved and are presented to people on different levels according to the need of the time. Early systems used herbs, ritual, invocation and retreat to call upon the spirit to become one again with the person needing healing.

Highly intelligent systems were created as an holistic science of body/mind/spirit and put into a practical form by people such as the ancient Indian Rishis (The Vedas), the Essenes (The Dead Sea Scrolls), the Egyptians (Nay Hammadi Texts), Native American Shamans (oral tradition), Early Greeks (mythology), Christians (the Bible), Muslims (the Qur'an); there are also records of the systems of the Knights Templar and the Free Masons. These forms were originally so that the people could practice and learn.

Most holistic healing systems rely on several things:

1. the willingness of the receiver/student to receive

2. the presence of a system of knowledge to reconnect the receiver to the quantum field, or Universal Spirit, that is to say, knowledge of God through practice of the Form

3. the balance of Chi

4. the experience and compassion of the healer to step aside allowing self-empowerment through self-referral, self-knowledge and trust

5. the shift of focus from Self to Source

6. Divine Grace.

The origins of Reiki have been traced back to Buddhist Sanskrit Scriptures. It is believed that the early forms were used by Buddhist monks in a different way from today, as part of their intricate system of prayer, invocation, ritual and surrender needed for life as a monk, most probably limited to self-treatment.

It was a completely Holy focus: a self addressing hands-on system to change the flow of Chi energy in the body to become of a more Divine nature, holding the body and mind still with the hands while the focus remained on the inner coursing of the Chi.

In 1979 a silk book was unearthed in China that dates from as early as 206 BC. It is called Dao Ying Qi Fa - Method of Inducing Free Flow of Chi. It contains 44 drawings of Chi Gong postures, some of which were an essential part of the training in the Shaolin Temple in Henan. It is believed that the Art of Reiki was a form of Chi Gong adapted and incorporated into the way of Buddhist Temple practice.

Eight Reiki Marketing Tips For Getting More Clients

Here are some Quick-Killer Methods for Increasing Your Reiki Business:

1. When you make your first sale, follow-up with the customer. You could follow-up with a "thank you" email and include an advertisement for other Products/Services/Classes you sell. You could follow-up every few months.

2. You could upsell to your customers. When they're at your order page, or signing up for a class/Session…tell them about a few extra related Products/Services that you have Available. They could just add it to their original order.

3. Tell your customers if they refer four paying customers to you, they will receive a free Service/Product. This will turn one sale into three sales.

4. When you sell a product, give your customers the option of joining an affiliate program so they can make commissions selling your Product. This will multiply the sale you just made. This is great if you will be selling manuals or ebooks over the internet.

5. A simple and Effective way to market your Reiki Practice is to offer an Article to people visiting your open house or Health Expo Booth. Include your contact information on the article, so that they can contact you after they have finished reading the article.

6. Collaborate with Others
More than likely, you will reach various times when you do not have the appropriate expertise to accomplish something.
This is the time collaboration and/or networking is valuable. These relationships can help you answer questions, provide guidance, and provide the ongoing
support and encouragement you will need.

7. Customer Relations
Keep your line of communication open with your customers. If they have a problem, show them the deserved respect and resolve the issue quickly. Make occasional phone calls to see if they have any needs.
This will let your customers know that you are there for them and care about their business. This relationship is what is going to keep you on the road to success. After all, the customer is your link between failure and success.

8. Repositioning and Reflection
On occasion, reflect on what you have accomplished as well as your open milestones and ensure you are still heading in the right direction.
Repositioning along the way to success is perfectly normal and to be expected. You may have been struggling with something specific.
Rather than continue battling this issue, reflect on what has not been working, and reposition yourself so you do not have to keep battling the same things repeatedly.

A Quick Guide to Stress Management with Reiki

Stress is overwhelmingly affecting people in our society today. Busy with work, home, family, and many other daily tasks - stress piles on without our realizing it. That's why so many people are turning to the stress-reducing techniques used in Reiki, a spiritual energy used with healing, meditation and spiritual growth. Introduction to Reiki When a person is introduced to Reiki, an initiation takes place called "Reiki Attunement." This brings the person into a relationship with Reiki energy, and is usually activated by a trained Reiki master-teacher. During a Reiki Attunement, the person's dense energy is cleared and released, and etheric and chakras fields are strengthened so the person will be able to receive and transmit high frequency healing light. The person can become familiar with Reiki healing and Reiki symbols as well. Learning to Relax Stress usually takes over when a person is fearful, doubtful, or full of worry about things that are happening around them. The person often lives in a constant tense state without realizing what is happening. The body naturally reacts with fatigue, moodiness and sometimes, disease. To relieve stress, one must learn to relax and overcome the fears and worries of everyday life. Reiki helps a person to relieve the emotional and physical strain of stress and to restore balance to the body, soul and mind. The person can return to a relaxed, peaceful state of being by clearing energy bodies and unblocking meridians, chakras and nadas. Methods of Stress Reduction and Elimination There are several methods used in Reiki to reduce and eliminate stress. One method is crystal healing, where crystals or crystal bowls are used to create sounds of healing and relaxation. The crystalline sounds carry Reiki energy deep into the body to enhance the relaxation process. Tension is released and the body begins to relax and respond to the Reiki energy. The crystal sounds promote deep tension release in the very cells of the body to create stress reduction from within. Crystal bowls are available in different sizes and can be tuned to any note desired - flats, sharps, or pure tones. Another method of Reiki stress management is through healing drumming. Healing drumming introduces Reiki energy to a person's body by the use of a drum beat. The drumming helps to create a deep, relaxing state as stress is relieved. There is a deep connection between the physical body, spiritual being, and the mind. Stress affects all three in a negative way. Using Reiki techniques for stress management is one way a person can lead a more relaxed, peaceful life.

How To Use Reiki Symbols

It seems that every year more and more Reiki symbols are being discovered and used.

This can be exciting – especially for the person who ‘channels’ them – but care must be taken. It is easy to miss the substance for the form.

Symbols help you focus and maybe even tap into a certain energetic vibration; but they are not the energy itself. They are a passageway to the energy – nothing more, nothing less.

It would therefore be a mistake to grow obsessed by them, because when we examine things closely, universal energy (rei – ki) is always the same. And it is this universal energy that does the healing, not the symbol.

One potential pitfall for those obsessed by symbols is that they end up working very hard during their Reiki treatments. They keep focusing on the symbols, they keep trying to force more and more energy through them, and in the process they forget to empty themselves and become a clear channel.

Think of it like a garden hose: when it is untangled with nothing inside (stones and junk etc.), then the water flows thick and fast. This is akin to opening yourself up and letting whatever may be, be.

When we try to force the issue, however, when we put a lot of ourselves into the healing, then it’s as if there are rocks and pebbles and other such things stuck in the hose. All of these things impede the flow of water (or, in our case, energy).

So let’s not get carried away by our symbols. If we need to use them, focus on them for a few moments and then let them go. That way you can derive benefit from them while still remaining an open channel.

Otherwise you will be straining hard, but getting meager results.

Reiki - Weave Life Force Energy Into Your Day

Reiki can be easily integrated into many aspects of your daily life allowing you to benefit from the relaxing and healing properties of life force energy. In my article, Reiki - Woven Into the Spiritual Fabric of Your Life, I outlined simple Reiki Techniques to start your day, but when you get to work, there are many more opportunities to do Reiki:

  • Make a Reiki symbol card by drawing all the Reiki symbols to which you have been attuned on a piece of paper or a file card. I did this on my computer by drawing the symbols on paper and scanning into the computer. Then print the symbols on a business card and place it out of site around your work space. You can put one under your keyboard, in your file cabinet or on the back of your wall calendar.
  • Use Reiki symbols as passwords for online accounts, you will be typing them each time you login.
  • Place a mini Reiki crystal grid on your desk, at work, in a very attractive box. Keep a picture on your crystal grid at home so when you charge it, the one at work is also filled with Reiki energy.
  • Give your self Reiki during your work day, when appropriate. You can place your hand on your leg and give yourself Reiki often, if you have that intention.
  • Draw or place a Reiki symbol card in your checkbook. You can also take a copy of your bank and credit card statements and draw symbols on them or make a bundle out of them, place a Reiki symbol card in the bundle; placing it in a sacred spot in your home. We live in an infinite universe; it's natural for us to experience abundance, including financial abundance, in our lives. The more abundance we attract in to our own lives the more we raise the level of receiving for everyone. Let Reiki help you achieve your life's purpose.
  • Put Reiki symbols in your wallet.
  • Carry crystals and wear crystal jewelry charge with Reiki.

Be creative, you will be surprised how many ways you can be a channel for Reiki energy.
  • Draw symbols or place Reiki Symbol cards behind the pictures on your walls and the books on the shelves in your home.
  • If it is practical, draw symbols on your water filter. Mine has a symbol card and crystals charged with Reiki in the casing. You will notice the difference in the taste of the water and you will have a constant source of Reiki water.
  • Draw Reiki symbols on cedar blocks and place them around the room when you are doing Reiki or when you are sleeping. You can turn them face down if you don't want your clients to see them. Cedar is traditionally known as a sacred wood. You will feel the energy as you put them around the room before a Reiki session and the smell of the cedar will enhance the environment.
  • Place crystals charge with Reiki into the potted plants in and around your home. My plants began to flourish after receiving this wonderful healing energy of crystals and Reiki. Place photos of the crystals and the plants on your Reiki crystal grid.
  • When leaving my house, before I close the front door, I draw a Reiki symbol to leave in the house until I return. It isn't necessary to draw symbols, you can visualize them or even just think of them and the energy becomes activated.
  • If you are a Reiki master, give yourself attunements regularly. I do every Sunday morning as soon as I get up.

Here are a few more very effective techniques you can do almost anywhere:
  • In nearly every situation you can draw symbols and send Reiki with your eyes. It is said that your eyes are the window to your soul so when you use them to send Reiki, it is your soul that is purely channeling and sending Reiki and it is your soul which is also receiving the healing energy.
  • Intend to send Reiki. Think Reiki. When we think, our thoughts take form, so just by thinking Reiki you activate the Reiki energy in your brain and start the flow. When we receive attunements, symbols are placed in our head and our brain. The images of the Reiki symbols are stored there; so that without any other physical action we can think and send Reiki. It's our intention which is the driving force behind the energy and the movement to its destination. Reiki energy is like water flowing down in a bubbling stream; going where it is needed, following the path of least resistance.
  • When you shake hands with someone or hug someone give them Reiki. You can easily intend for Reiki to flow into your hands and allow the person with whom you are making contact to receive a touch of Reiki energy.
  • Be Reiki. Pick the Reiki symbol most appropriate for you at the time and imagine you are that Reiki symbol. Experience the energy of the symbol first hand. When you are done, send the symbol back to the universe and come back into your body.
  • When sending Reiki long distance, imagine the person or situation to which you are intending to send the Reiki small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, hold that imagine between your two hands and send Reiki. I feel very intense energy when I do this and have been told afterwards, by the people receiving, that they experienced very effective healing experiences.
  • The more Reiki you do, the better. Weave Reiki into the fabric of your life and you will notice it become richer and stronger. Activate the sacred and experience the divine.

And so it is...

Reiki Protection Sphere

I this developed for a friend who was concerned about
protection and to keep negative energies away
. It uses the
Reiki symbols and makes a sphere of energy around you. The
technique is easy to do and tends to work well. Other uses
are to set the sphere and meditate inside it, or to do the
sphere prior to doing treatments. This is not a Traditional
Reiki Technique, but one that I developed and find useful.

To set the sphere: Connect to the Reiki Energy. Draw the Cho
Ku Rei to the six directions around your body (north, south,
east, west, up and down. Next Draw a large Dai Ko Mio the
length of your body. Draw the Hon Sha Ze Sho Nen above your
head to place the sphere in all times and places, and
finally draw the Sei Hei Ki on the third eye and the heart
to free you from fear. Finish by stating your intent for the
sphere (that it protect, and remove fears) and let the reiki
flow into the sphere into the three circles connecting the
Cho Ku Rei's.

One of my favorite uses of the sphere is to use it to send
loving energy to those who are ask for distant healing.
Construct the sphere and then meditate in the sphere. Use
whatever distant healing technique that you feel comfortable
with and send loving energy. Using this sphere can also be a
wonderful way to release your own negative emotions and
stress.

Five Ways to Strengthen Your Reiki Energy

ntroduction

Wouldn't it be nice if there were a few simple tricks for strengthening your connection to Reiki energy? Things that didn't take much effort but could have an immediate effect?

This article explores five simple ways to do just that. Undoubtedly there are many more, but these five all have the virtue of being available to anyone at any time, at any Reiki skill level.

Technique 1: Dry Bathing (Kenyoku Ho)

Although this is by far the most complex energy 'trick' of the five, it is still relatively simple. Doing it before each Reiki session will definitely make a difference to the flow of energy.

Method:

Put your right hand on your left shoulder, breathe into your hara (i.e. the 2nd chakra - located about 5cm below your belly button), and sweep diagonally - exhaling forcefully - across the front of your body down to your right hip.

(By 'sweep', we mean brushing your hand over your body as if you were 'sweeping' dust away from your shoulder, past your hip and onto the ground.)

Put your left hand on your right shoulder, inhale into your hara, and 'sweep' - exhaling - down to your left hip.

Put your hand back on your left shoulder, inhale, and sweep your hand - exhaling - down to your right hip.

Extend your left arm out in front of your body, palm facing upwards, arm horizontal to the ground. Put your right hand on your left shoulder - inhale into your hara - and 'sweep' along your arm - exhaling - all the way past the left fingertips.

Repeat the process on your opposite side by extending your right hand palm facing upwards in front of your body (arm horizontal to the ground), placing your left hand on your right shoulder, inhaling into your hara, and sweeping along your right arm - exhaling - all the way past the right fingertips.

Extend your left arm out in front of your body, palm facing upwards, arm horizontal to the ground. Put your right hand on your left shoulder - inhale into your hara - and 'sweep' along your arm - exhaling - all the way past the left fingertips.

Let your arms hang down by the sides of your body and feel any energetic currents that may arise (most probably in your arms and hands).

Gassho (join your hands together in prayer position [namaste] in front of your chest) and give thanks.

Technique 2: Rubbing Hands Together

Rub your hands together vigorously for ten seconds before giving yourself or another Reiki. This will stimulate the energetic channels in your hand, thus making it easier for the Reiki energy to flow.

Technique 3: Keep Fingers Together and Hands Cupped

Reiki will generally flow more strongly if you keep your fingers together (although the thumb may, at times, separate from the other fingers).

Mrs Takata, the founder of Western Reiki, apparently proclaimed: 'Scattered hands, scattered energy'. She was right, although you should naturally never be dogmatic (sometimes, after all, you may in fact desire a more spread out sort of energy).

That said, 9 times out of 10 you will feel more if you keep your fingers together.

The same can also be said for keeping your hands held cupped rather than flat on the body. The reasons for this are not exactly clear, but try it if you are not already doing so. The energy almost always seem to flow better.

Technique 4: Hover Above Each Hand Position Before Touching The Body

A good way to get a stronger connection to each Reiki position is to hover above it with your hands before lowering them onto the body.

The trick is to wait until you get an energetic connection and only then put your hands on the body. For some reason this makes it easier to connect to the Reiki energy of each position.

Technique 5: Keep One Hand On The Body When Changing Hand Positions

To keep the energetic connection going (and build momentum, thus strengthening it), it is a good idea not to take both hands off your body when changing positions (the same applies when you give Reiki to someone else).

Keep one hand grounded while you move the other. Then anchor the one you have moved, and move the one you had kept grounded. That way the energetic space and connection you have established is not short-circuited.

Reiki Guides

Reiki is fast gaining popularity as a method for healing and gaining wisdom by connecting forces with the Divine. Reiki can be loosely defined channeling Universal Light for the purpose of healing the self or others. Though the original system of Reiki does not point towards the appearance of spirit guides, many a time this Light also brings with it a spiritual energy in the form of a guide who many call a spirit guide, a Reiki guide or even angelic guides depending on their spiritual inclinations.

A spirit guide is different from a spirit, when you are performing Reiki you are not channeling spirits but because of the high amounts of Spiritual Energy generated that is directed towards a positive purpose like healing, spirits who assist in such purposes may stage an appearance. These spirits are not just spirits invoked in shamanistic rituals but these are spirits who work as guides, advisors or spiritual counselors. The ancient Shinto religion features Divine Spirits called Kami who inhabit this world and are a part of each and every thing in this world like the elements and even intangible qualities like joy, fertility etc. however the system of Reiki started by Dr. Usui Mikao did not include any aspects of Shintoism that had to do with working with these spirits or Kami. Thus even though originally this Japanese tradition did not work with spirit guides, their presence started becoming favorable to the process of Reiki and during the 80’s and the 90’s with the coming of the new-age spiritual revolution, Reiki systems also began incorporating spirit guides often calling them as Reiki guides. However Reiki techniques such as Byosen Ho and Reiji Ho help the practitioner develop intuitive abilities that are a gateway to astral wisdom and connecting with spirit guides.

Though these guides are astral spirits that can be present in a Reiki session and guide a healer to know things about the patient for example, while working with certain patients it may become difficult to figure out the correct approach, work on a specific site of blockage etc and this is where a spirit guide can come in to guide the healer and this in turn boosts the power of Reiki to bring about great results and higher healing.

It is not that an initiate at the second level will magically start to communicate with sprit guides, it takes practice and perseverance and to develop intuitive abilities to sense spirit guides through Reiki techniques like Byosen Ho and Reiji Ho. It is not an easy process but certainly not impossible if you learn to listen to the voice that resides inside of you. This voice is constantly talking but the noise from the mind drowns it out, keenly listening to the voice of your heart is a tool of power that is always with you. This voice can guide you like no other spirit can and it is vital to heed its call and this is what can be developed by using the aforementioned Reiki techniques.

Constantly honing your skills and practicing Reiki with faith and understanding can lead to some wonderful experiences with yourself – your own inner work and also share wisdom with spirit guides.

The Five Building Blocks of Traditional Japanese Reiki

Over the past ten years, the world of Western Reiki has undergone rapid change. In fact, not since Iris Ishikuro disobeyed Mrs Takata by making the Master Level commonly available has anything of the like happened (Mrs Takata had decreed US $10,000 to be the going rate for the course, thus putting it out of most people's reach).

While there are several plausible reasons for this change - the advent of the Web, a growing number of teachers etc. - the principal cause is almost certainly the rediscovery of Reiki's Japanese heritage. This has led many practitioners to question much that was previously taken as 'gospel', and delve more deeply into a practice they soon learnt was not just a healing system, but also a way of life.

The Problem with Western Reiki

The Reiki almost everyone practices in the West was passed on - in one way or another - from Mrs Takata (a student of Dr Hayashi who, in turn, was a student of Mikao Usui, the founder of Reiki). Her style of Reiki has proven a great success and helped millions of people around the world. This is indisputable.

But is it true to Usui's original system of Reiki? And, more importantly, is it as effective as what Usui originally taught?

The answer, I believe, is 'no', and the reason is that Mrs Takata focused too much on the healing component of Reiki. For her Reiki was - at least primarily - a hands-on healing technique; while for Mikao Usui it was something much grander: a path to Enlightenment.

Before I elaborate on this point, it should be noted that the difference in emphasis is not surprising given the way Mrs Takata and Mikao Usui found Reiki. Mikao Usui arrived at Reiki after a life of meditation, martial arts and (Tendai) Buddhism; Mrs Takata found it after she sought a solution to several life threatening health problems.

As a result, Usui saw Reiki in the context of Buddhism (and hence, Enlightenment); and Mrs Takata saw Reiki in the context of healing. It is therefore only to be expected that the way they taught Reiki differed substantially.

The Five Building Blocks of Reiki

Reiki, as taught by Usui, consisted of five principal parts:

  • Attunements
  • Healing
  • Mantras and Symbols
  • Traditional meditation techniques
  • Reiki precepts

All five parts are seen to work symbiotically together: one part strengthening the other in a bid - ultimately - to find Enlightenment.

In Western Reiki (as taught by Mrs Takata) many of the five components are either lost or greatly weakened. They all exist, sure, but the emphasis - as we have explained - is on the healing. Everything else is useful only insomuch as it helps this.

The Quest for Enlightenment

Since Reiki, for Usui, was not principally about healing (in fact, he only bothered teaching hands on healing in the last few years of his life!), then it is worth examining how it fits in with the goal of Enlightenment . In particular, it is useful to re-examine the five building blocks of Reiki to see how traditional Usui Reiki differs in emphasis from that handed down by Mrs Takata.

The Attunements

The attunements are for the most part used in a similar way in both Western and Japanese Reiki. Their purpose is to connect the aspiring practitioner to Reiki energy. The principal difference is that in Japanese Reiki the attunements (reiju) are not a one off thing. Rather, they are performed over and over again to help maintain one's connection to the Reiki energy.

In fact, in Usui's time, it was even common practice to perform reijus each time Reiki practitioners met as a group.

Healing

As we have already said, healing for Usui was not so much an end in itself as a path to Enlightenment. Through healing you entered into a deep meditative state that led to a closer connection with the true Self.

That is not to say that the healing component wasn't valued. After all, Usui himself spent much time healing people (sometimes even doing so for days on end - for instance after the 1923 Tokyo earthquake). The point is simply that healing was of secondary importance. It was the spiritual state of an individual that truly mattered.

Not surprisingly, Japanese healing sessions tend to be much more intuitive as a result, since the emphasis on the meditative element makes them less 'heady' than their Western equivalent.

As a rule, there are no set positions, with a practitioner moving intuitively from one place to the next (unlike the method Mrs Takata taught which involves students using a set of fixed hand positions).

Mantras and Symbols

In Western Reiki, the mantras and symbols are primarily used to strengthen healing. If the practitioner feels that more energy is needed on a certain part of a patient's body, for instance, the Power Symbol can be drawn to intensify the Reiki energy. The mantras and symbols are generally used together - the mantras being repeated after the symbols are drawn.

In Japanese Reiki the symbols have a role of lesser importance. Indeed, the best way to describe them - according to Frans Stiene - would be something like 'training wheels'. While a beginner practitioner has a less reliable (or weaker) connection to the Reiki energy they will be used; but as soon as the practitioner has learnt to embody the energy of the symbols they will be let go of.

Furthermore, the symbols are used more for the practitioner's sake than the client's. They are not drawn on the client so that he or she can receive 'more energy'. Rather, they are drawn by the practitioner so that she, herself, can better embody their energy.

Another key difference between the two Reiki systems is that in Japanese Reiki the mantras are often used on their own. They are generally chanted with the aim of strengthening certain energy centres (for instance the CKR mantra - that is pronounced slightly differently to normal - bolsters the hara, or second chakra).

Students will spend months - maybe even years - chanting these mantras, working their way from one to the next only when their teacher deems them ready for the next one.

Traditional Meditation Techniques

As a rule, traditional Western Reiki neglects meditation practice. Sometimes meditation techniques involving the visualization of the Reiki symbols are taught, and students are usually encouraged to be in a meditative state when practising Reiki; but systematic meditation is seldom part of Western Reiki.

For Usui, on the contrary, meditation was a genuine cornerstone upon which Reiki developed. Using particular meditation techniques - in particular breathing into the hara - students learnt to focus their mind, strengthen their energy and merge with the true Self.

Since Reiki - as we have said - was for Usui a path to Enlightenment, then moving more deeply within oneself was the most important thing one could do. As such, it is hardly surprising that Usui taught meditation for many years before teaching the healing component of Reiki.

Healing the body is great, for sure; but healing the mind (through meditation) is more important still.

Reiki Precepts

The Reiki precepts are taught in both Western and Japanese Reiki and, to some extent, are important to both. The main difference between the two systems is how they are used.

While in Western Reiki the precepts are often understood on an intellectual level, Japanese Reiki aims to understand them in a more intuitive, non-rational way. Practitioners meditate on them, trying to understand with the 'gut', not the head. In this way, it is hoped, they can more fully embody the principles (in both actions and spirit).

When the principles are understood with the head alone, students will generally find that they do not greatly influence their actions.

Conclusion

Due to the multiple developmental influences on Western Reiki - for instance, Indian, Tibetan and Egyptian to name just a few - it is impossible to make any statements that are valid for all of its forms.

That said, it is nevertheless true that on the whole, Japanese Reiki is principally a path to Enlightenment, while Western Reiki is a path to healing. This, it could be argued, is the main difference between the two systems.

(Note: This discussion should be seen as a general one. In other words, as accurate as it will often prove to be, many Reiki practitioners and systems will not conform to the 'norm'.)

The Essence of Reiki - You Can Teach Yourself Reiki!

Can you teach yourself Reiki?

Yes, I firmly believe that you can. If you really want to learn anything, you can!

Reiki is no different and because the energy of Reiki comes directly from God, it may be one of the easiest things in the world to learn!

God gives us everything we need, without even asking, He starts our heart beating and keeps it beating for us, He gives us the air to breathe, the food to eat and the water we drink. It is all given to us in abundance, so it stands to reason that His Healing Energy would be given to us just as freely.

Healing Energy is not an invention of man, it is a gift form above!

I have found from personal experience, that the more we are grateful for the gifts God has given us, the more he strengthens them!

For me, I have enjoyed a home study course called The Essence of Reiki to strengthen my Reiki and knowledge that I originally attained from a weekend workshop.

Think of the sugar pill, the placebo is given to the patient, believing the doctor, that it will cure him and more often than not it does.

It is the belief that the patient has in the magic pill that cures him. Put that believe in the gifts that God has given you and you will see every aspect of your life improve and strengthen!

Reiki is the Power of God flowing through man's hands! Let God's work work through you.

You can learn Reiki on your own or you can learn it from skilled Reiki Masters, but I suspect that if you do not give thanks and praise to God for the Healing Energy flowing through you, you are inhibiting how powerful a Healer you can be!

You can go it alone, but remember, a good teacher can help keep you focused and provide many short cuts.

A simple exercise.

Sit with your feet flat on the floor.

Rest your hands on your thighs.

Close your eyes.

Now focus on your finger tips, think about them, feel them and see them in your mind's eye.

Focus on all of them until you feel a slight tingle.

Once you feel the tingling in your finger tips, focus your attention on each one individually.

First the left thumb, then the left index finger and so on.

As you do this you will feel the energy increase in your fingers, they may feel warm.

That is the feeling of the Reiki Energy flowing through you!

Once you have all your fingers buzzing with electricity, slowly, raise your hands, palms facing each other, and slowly move them towards each other.

You will feel them touch each other before they touch!

As soon as you "feel" the presence of the other hand, open your eyes, you may be surprised at how far apart they really were!

That is just the beginning!

When you become a Reiki Master, that energy flows with the flick of a switch, by merely saying "Reiki On!"

You can learn more about The Essence of Reiki and more Reiki tips at my Blog.

Just For Today - Reiki's Little Understood Precepts By Gail Juliano

The Healing Power of the Five Reiki Precepts

Just for Today, do not worry.
Just for Today, do not anger.
Just for Today, honor your parents, teachers and elders.
Just for Today, earn your living honestly.
Just for Today, show gratitude to every living thing.

Reiki energy is a powerful healing tool, and can help you to come into alignment with your own inner truth. There have been a large number of people around the world learning Reiki. Many of those people use the precepts lightly, as a way of thinking about the work, but these precepts contain a powerful healing mystery in and of themselves.

Contained in the precepts is a pattern for living a life of constant peace and harmony. They are not something to struggle to attain, but rather, if you look closely, you will see a treasure map to living a life of wonder, joy and awe. Though these precepts appear in various wordings from book to book and teacher to teacher, they are basically the same with one exception: not all versions begin with the words, “Just for Today.”

“Just for Today…” These three words, alone, can heal, for you can do anything for just a day. Alcoholics Anonymous and the other Anonymous 12-step programs work well because of this one-day-at-a-time concept. But, it also and even more deeply contains the concept of “being in the NOW.” It helps you to remember, that the past is gone. It only exists in your mind. The future has not arrived. It too, exists only in your mind. NOW is really the only place where you can truly live in peace. No past; no anger, guilt, resentment. No future; no fear, anxiety, manipulation.

In the first precept, “Just for today, do not worry,” you are given a clue that you might be living too much in the future. The future is the place we all go to worry. But in reality, the future does not exist. It is simply a story you have created in your mind, and then it becomes so real that it cheats you out of your present life. The imaginary future is where worriers spend most of their days. And for those who believe in self-fulfilling prophecies, you will virtually create the future you are worried about in some fashion or other.

In the second precept, “Just for today, do not anger,” you can see that you might be living too much in the past. Recounting old injustices day after day puts you in the imaginary world of the past, as you literally interpret circumstances only exist now, in your mind. As you go over and over this story you rekindle anger and other negative emotions, triggering chemical reactions in your body that can literally make you ill, sometimes in the most extreme ways. And, you are robbing yourself of the present. Thinking about angry or guilt-filled circumstances in your mind virtually guarantees that you will continue to attract circumstances and people into your life that make you angry or guilty.

Contained in the third precept, “Just for today, honor your parents, teachers and elders,” is the notion of humility in honoring those who have participated in our becoming who we are. In our modern world, counselors and psychologists often have us dissect our past, and many of our present neuroses and psychoses are found to be rooted in family and parental “dysfunction.” At that point, many of us separate from our parents and spend a good amount of time actually blaming our parents for much of what we have become. We could honestly not find much to honor as we poke around in our past. However, again, choosing to enter the infinite NOW, you can see that the past is gone. All hurt resulting from the past is only carried forward into the present moment in your mind only. In the present moment you and you alone have responsibility for your behavior. Not only can you forgive, but you see that in this moment there is nothing or no one to forgive – only the stillness of life, itself, breathing through you. You can honor all your teachers, all the elders who have gone before you, including your parents. Even your reactions to them have been valuable teachings. In the present moment you can see that you are who you are because of these way-showers.

The fourth precept, “Just for today, earn your living honestly,” brings forth the infinite NOW, as well. If you are aware and conscious of your true being right here and right now, you cannot possibly violate yourself or another. It is only in the unconsciousness of fear (a symptom of living too much in the future) or anger, resentment or guilt (a symptom of living too much in the past) that someone would work at a position or do conduct their work in a way that was not in alignment with his or her truest calling or that was doing damage in some way to others or to the world. Clearly rooted in NOW, there is trust and knowing, love and truth. You would be working for good, and the world would respond in kind towards supporting your well-being.

In the fifth precept, “Just for today, show gratitude to every living thing,” the principles come closest to the belief system of its founder, Mikao Usui. For if we go into Buddhist teachings, you will encounter the concept of reincarnation, where you are told that during the millions of incarnations you have had, literally all sentient beings have been your mother in one lifetime or another and should be honored and given gratitude simply for giving you birth and life. This blending of lifetimes again is found most clearly in the NOW. If you sit or walk quietly, peacefully noticing the stillness of nature in which sound and movement arises, you begin to see the connectedness of all things, and notice your place in the panorama of life as you look around. In the stillness you find peace. In the stillness of no past, no future, you are able to show gratitude for life, itself. You can forgive and release the past, and you are released from fear and worry about the future.

In these five small teachings you are healed and you can heal others. These ideas lay the foundation of any Reiki healing practice and should be looked upon with reverence in their simplicity. Beneath all historical teachings and information given about the sacred symbols and hand positions, lies the fundamental healing nature of Reiki. Namaste’

The Five Reiki Principles Taught By Dr Usui written by Steve Hill

Dr Mikao Usui believed that in order for anyone to practice reiki and transfer healing energy to others, they must have first taken responsibility for their own health and wellbeing. He developed five principles which he taught to his students as strategies to apply to life these he defined as:-

Just for today, do not be angry.

Anger can be a vast destructive force; it hurts others as well as ourselves. Anger closes us off from love and compassion.

Try to detach yourself from situations you feel are engendering any feelings of anger; do not just suppress the feeling for it to return another time. Anger will create a massive leak of the vital energy force from our systems.

Constantly remind yourself that anger is not your real nature and as such it will pass, try to acknowledge it, witness it and then let it go forever. Remember the opposite of anger is calmness.

Just for today, do not worry.

Worry, like anger will also create another great vital energy leak. While anger deals with past and present events, worry deals with perceived future events and happenings. Although worry is not always a negative phenomenam, we should all disregard thoughts of future events and circumstances over which we have no ultimate control.

The source of worry is fear of change, one thing we do not always have complete control over.

Just for today, be grateful.

We should all try to be grateful and show appreciation for the many blessings that can fill our lives, especially when times are difficult. If we can be grateful we can eliminate worry. If we live in a state of gratitude, appreciating and giving thanks for the many blessings of life we can help transform negative attitudes and thoughts into positive ones. When we are grateful for all that we have received, and when we believe that we will continue to receive these things then we will attract abundance.

Just for today, work hard.

We should all work to the best of our ability each day. There is no job that is too humble that it does not require our full effort.

Through work we learn and grow, our whole day should be filled with an effort to work hard and honestly at all we do.

Devotion will grow through working hard.

Just for today, be kind to others.

We should all try to show kindness to our fellow men. We must honour all living things and be tolerant of the way others choose to live their lives

It is important that we realise and accept that being kind and friendly to everyone must include ourselves.

Simple Reiki Hand Positions For Reiki Healing By Kelvin Ho Wee Min

You must be well aware about all the various benefits that are closely associated with the path of Reiki as a form of meditation as well as long lasting healing. Most of us are also aware how powerful such treatment are when it comes to eliminating stress as well as propelling an amazing feeling relaxation, serenity as well as positive well being. This is a path that helps to get rid of any kind of illness and cures several ailments just as it speedily weeds out the mind negative emotions such as anxieties, pain, and depression.

While one opts to be treated with this technique for healing, it is important to pay attention to proper positions of the hand because that forms a vital part of Reiki. No complicated rituals are performed in this practice because simple Reiki hand positions for healing is sufficient provided there is a willingness of the patient to receive this natural feeling of compassionate healing.

Many healers work by listening to their intuition so that they just let their hands move along to do the work while they basically act to pass the healing energy so that the recipient is benefited.

To begin with, the problem area is first identified by placing your hands to scan the body of the recipient. Where there seems to be any kind of difference in sensation from a particular part, that would be intercepted as a problem area that is causing much difficulty to the recipient. While you are involved in continuing with the Reiki hand positions, it is possible that you may experience different types of sensations such as cold, heat, pulsing or even a complete dearth of sensations. So it is also important to understand the fact that the person who is getting such treatment may not feel these sensations which the practitioner does through the method of simple hand positions for Reiki healing.

It is best to always to keep your hands about 2 to 4 inches away from the body of the recipient. Keep the hands in a cupped way, with fingers bonding closely together and thumbs pulled upward against the hand. This would make sure that the positive energy is directed to the recipient whom you are treating.

Do note the fact that lying down is the best Reiki position because it makes sure that the person feels completely at ease and relaxed enough to imbibe that positive energy. If the recipient tries to fight or oppose this powerfully, positive energy, it won't help at all.

When you start a treatment, you always begin with the head wherein your hand would cover the middle of the forehead where it is believed the third eye begins and the treatment ends by the feet. Remember, Reiki hand positions are very important for the healing aspect.

While there is movement from one hand positions to another position, it is best that you do this in a most gentle way so that the recipient is not disturbed at all. The moment you have gone ahead to place your first hand on the body of the recipient, you should ensure that this contact is not broken. You can do this by moving your hands gradually, one at a time, in a way that ensure that you are in constant touch with the recipient.

Using these tips on simple hand positions for Reiki healing, you should be more confident about letting the positive energy flow.

Reduce High Blood Pressure With Reiki byalvin hopkinson

Unfortunately, high blood pressure affects many men and women everyday. It is also occasionally diagnosed amongst children. Yes, hypertension can be a suffocating disease, but it can be controlled. Many physicians simply prescribe medications to lower the blood pressure. Yet, you can take your life into your own hands. It is possible to reduce high blood pressure with Reiki. The concept is not well known, but effective never-the-less.

First, allow me to start off by introducing Reiki to you. Reiki is a system that was developed and dedicated to the work of a theologist named Dr. Mikao Usui. This system is flexible; therefore it can be effective for anyone. The natural healing system is designed to do just that. If successfully executed, it can heal you physically, mentally, spiritually and emotionally.

This passage will assist you with focusing on your objective. More so, you must be totally dedicated to the system in order for it to be effective.

1. You can use the Reiki treatments to energize you. Specifically, this natural healing system will energize you when you fell lethargic or calm you when you are feeling anxious or afraid.

2. You can use the Reiki treatments to restore and maintain. One of the benefits of Reiki is that it is extremely beneficial for tension/stress reduction and relaxation by triggering the body's natural healing abilities.

3. Finally, Reiki provides the additional energy needed to recover from illnesses. Reiki will increase vitality while simultaneously slowing down the aging process.

Reiki is performed by the simple touch of the hands. This incredible healing process allows a natural flow of the energy from a limited source (sometimes referred to as God's source) to the body of the patient from the Reiki practitioner. Imbalances occur due to the disruption of the "Life Force Energy."

Essentially, the practice is extremely powerful, the energy is gentle. Thus, you may want to explore the concept of reducing high blood pressure with Reiki. It eliminates most symptoms of hypertension, thereby restoring imbalances and restoring good health.

Reiki for the Recovering Alchoholic and Addiction by Rev. Lynette Burkert

This article is dedicated to all those who have looked at their lives and dared to change - to those who have faced their problems and gone on to live full and rewarding lives. To all of my friends and clients in the recovering drug and alcohol community, I thank you for allowing me to bring Reiki into your lives.

From 1991 to 1993, I had the privilege of working at Hope Ranch, a drug and alcohol treatment center in Triangle Lake, Oregon where I was hired to give Reiki to clients and staff. During that time I became a counselor and participated in more than 1,500 Reiki sessions with addicts and alcoholics in different stages of recovery - from early detoxification to years of sobriety.

Prior to working at the treatment center, my understanding of Reiki was that it is used to encourage physical healing and promote relaxation. I had previously worked with clients suffering from a variety of ailments, including ulcers, cancer, arthritis and other physical maladies. Because my experience showed that Reiki had a positive effect on these people, I thought those suffering from drug and alcohol withdrawals could also benefit from exposure to the Universal Life Energy.

Withdrawal from chemical dependency is extremely stressful, both physically and emotionally. Symptoms include muscle pain, bone aches, headaches, vomiting, the shakes, diarrhea, cravings, sleep disorders, loss of appetite and extreme moodiness. I quickly discovered that Reiki was very helpful in relieving the physical symptoms, and in calming the body and mind.

New clients were often understandably reluctant to participate in the Reiki session, as they usually had trust issues. However, within a half an hour the calming effect of Reiki greatly reduced or eliminated their shakes. Furthermore, once the shakes stopped, they did not return. I would then continue to administer Reiki, focusing my consciousness on the client's sense of calmness, peace and safety. Once the body felt safe and supported, it seemed to release the sense of panic and trauma that accompanies withdrawal symptoms. At this point, I usually had a pretty willing client for future sessions.

I observed that these clients, who usually suffered from anger and shame issues, were beginning to behave more gently, openly and compassionately once they experienced Reiki. The staff also reported that clients who received Reiki appeared to become calmer and were less likely to have destructive emotional outbursts. The more Reiki they received, the more centered they became. Once clients became comfortable with Reiki, they would often seek a session to help alleviate physical pain. Those who came into a session with a headache, shoulder pain or backache would find relief from their pain just like others I worked with who suffered from purely physical afflictions. However, I believe that much of the pain suffered by addicts and alcoholics is emotionally induced. Once the body is calmed and the mind relaxed, the pain subsides.

Clients also suffered from tremendous emotional pain. The disease of addiction creates reservoirs of grief and guilt. Successful treatment relies in great part on providing an environment of acceptance that promotes self-love. Reiki fits this requirement perfectly. Many clients claimed that the first time they ever felt unconditionally loved was during a Reiki session. Clients often cried during Reiki, and this too helped release built-up stress in the body and psyche.

Clients also commented that their Reiki sessions were their first experience of being touched lovingly without someone wanting something from them. Many addicts have been physically and/ abused. Experiencing such softness and care allowed them to release the tension that resulted from their desire to protect themselves from further abuse. Many of these clients experienced peace in their lives for the first time.

Emotional healing was aided in another way. Occasionally, when placing my hands on the different Reiki positions, a client would remember past trauma. Because of the calming effect of Reiki, the client would remember an incident without experiencing the original pain.

This allowed the client to become an observer instead of a participant in the trauma, which helped the client see more clearly how past behaviors or unresolved issues could lead to relapse, and helped the client to address such issues without being blocked by fear.

Many of the clients I worked with had been through chemical dependency treatment a number of times. Their ability to stay clean and sober was inhibited, in part, by their carrying unresolved issues and repressed feelings. Clients were often seeking some way to access whatever it was that kept them in a state of denial. This process was a valuable tool in breaking through the walls that kept them from understanding themselves. It sometimes also helped clients to release chronic physical pain that was associated with the original trauma

Reiki ,Medicine,Miracles by Laura Ellen Gifford

I recently had an opportunity to teach Reiki in Rincon, Puerto Rico. I was blessed by my hosts, Liz and Jean when they shared a healing technique with me known as Magnified Healing®.

One of the techniques in this system is for organ regeneration. This was of particular interest to me because I have been working with a client for nearly a year, who has been diabetic since birth, lost her eyesight 3 years ago, and has been receiving kidney dialysis treatments 3 times a week.

This client, Teresa, has been actively pursuing complementary healing energies including participating in the healing energy at Life's Pathway in Carefree, Indiana where a small group of people have been gathering to experience the energy of Mother Mary, in the form of the Lady of Light. Teresa has also been coming to my office for Reiki treatments twice a week, and has been trained through the Advanced Level of Reiki. She receives much distant Reiki from the group of healers we work with.

I was thrilled to have the addition of Magnified Healing and the organ regeneration technique to assist her.

Teresa has no health insurance, thus it took her over two years to even get on the list for organ transplants, and she finally made the list on June 7th of this year. She was told to be prepared to wait 6 months to 3 years for organs. I called her when I heard this news (I was on my way to Puerto Rico at the time). When I spoke to her she was concerned that it might take years, and didn't know if she could survive that long. We talked about healing miracles taking many forms, and that receiving the transplant could be her miracle.

As we have recently been hearing on the news in stories of Mickey Mantle, and other celebrities' transplant operations; it often takes years for patients to find the donor organs they need, and many times organs are not a match, so the patient goes back on the waiting list. Those with insurance are usually at the top of the list. Remember Teresa has no medical insurance.

On June 7th, she was put on the list to await the organs. On Sunday, June 18th, just 11 days later, I was taught the Magnified Healing Technique. At 9:55 that evening I applied this technique to the regular Distant Reiki treatment I send to her. Just before midnight on the 18th, just 2 hours later, she received a call to come into the hospital, the kidney and pancreas she needed had been located, and she was to be tested to see if they were a match for her. They were a good match, and by noon on Monday the 19th she was on her way to surgery.

My client received the transplant operation, and is recovering in the hospital at this writing and should be home in just a few days.

I know that all the healing energies she has been accessing were instrumental to her healing, the energy of the Lady of Light, Reiki, daily prayer, the love of her mother and many friends, and traditional medicine. I also know within every atom of my being that some sort of connection with the Magnified Healing energy and Reiki was a catalyst to expedite the process of receiving the organs.

Please remember Teresa in your distant Reiki as we focus on acceptance of the organs, and healing her eyes. As always we ask for her continued, perfect healing through the highest and most holy healing energies and know that this is done.

Wishing you peace through the Love of God.
